Arts in the Park & Cafe Lunch
1st Saturday of every month
Saturday, February 4
10am – 4pm
Lunch in the SC Café
12 - 1:30 pm $7 pp
Residents, please pre-register for lunch!
“Village Arts in the Park” has become “Arts in the Park” and is now located in the Union Center Entrance the first Saturday of each and every month from October through April. The location change is part of their on-going effort to make this a convenient, welcoming Craft Sale.
The craft sale is growing. We are averaging between 20-30 booths with some very interesting and unique offerings. As marketing efforts improve and word gets out that this will happen the first Saturday of each month during our “high season” we fully expect to see more and more vendors participate.
To complement “Arts in the Park” the Lifestyle department began offering a $7 lunch in the Café between noon and 1:30pm. A typical menu for this event will be a sandwich, chips, side salad, dessert and beverage. Last month, 28 residents, vendors and shoppers enjoyed the lunch and we expect it will grow as word gets out. We do ask that residents PRE-REGISTER for the lunch so we are able to plan for enough food. There will be some guess work in planning for non-residents who stop by to shop and decide to enjoy lunch which is why we need residents to help us by registering ahead of time.
The next “Arts in the Park” is March 3! Mark your calendars now!

Volunteers Extraordinaire!
Remember the 80's TV show MacGyver where Richard Dean Anderson played Angus MacGyver, a different kind of hero: he didn't use weapons, and he was an expert at making complicated machines out of ordinary things. Well, Vicki D'Elia is our very own 21st Century female MacGyver! Her forte may not be machinery, but she really could survive in the desert for days with just a toothpick and a glue gun! Recently Vicki has put her talents to the task of developing ideas for a number of events including Del Webb Goes Pink, Caribbean Night, Halloween, USO Show and she is currently working diligently with eleven other devoted volunteers to ensure that "A Royal Affair" will provide a dazzling evening to those attending our New Year's Eve Party.
Vicki's enthusiasm and energy also spills over to her home. On any given day you can find her putting up a back splash, adding a light fixture, installing cabinets or painting a couple rooms! To most of us, that's a lot of work, but to Vicki, it's just Tuesday...
Thank you Vicki for being our MacGyver!

· How to take better care of your own health
In addition, respite and transportation assistance may be available to help caregivers attend the workshops.
Workshops are being planned for Casa Grande, Florence, and Globe in February and March. Seating is limited and a pre-registration process is required.

Florence Getting $1 Million Honky-Tonk in Moonshine Willy's
Dallas has Billy Bob's.
And in a couple weeks, Florence will have Moonshine Willy's.
Owner Harry Luge Sr. described the $1 million, multi-use entertainment facility as "the largest honky-tonk in the state."
"We have the real deal," Luge said. "This is a real honky-tonk, not a wannabe. Some places may have a country name, but this is a true country honky-tonk with live bull riding, bronc riding and special events. It's a one-of-a-kind facility."
Moonshine Willy's, which opens on Feb. 10, includes a 30,000-square-foot picnic area and a 25,000-square-foot pavilion. Altogether, Luge said, the facility can handle about 2,500 people. It has a liquor license, will serve barbecue and holds a stage with a complete sound system.

New & Improved Volunteer Program
Date: April 22, 2011
Resident volunteers are the” heartbeat” and "life support” of activities at Sun City. Without our wonderful volunteers, it wouldn’t be possible to hold the many outstanding events we have.
We’re pleased to have a core group of volunteers for the upcoming 2011-2012 season but, although we’ve got some of our bases covered, we need to recruit quite a few more for the many exciting activities still on the drawing board.
The format for volunteering is new and improved. > read full story

MFCD awards Dam Repair Contract to FNF Construction
It's time to celebrate! After years and years of effort to get to this point, the Magma Flood Control District has finally completed 1) all of the engineering, design work and construction plans which define the needed repairs for the Dam, and 2) secured all of the funding necessary to complete construction of the needed Dam repairs, including verifying that all of the federal funding has been appropriated by congress and obligated by USDA NRCS for repair of the Magma Dam.
As a result, on April 1, 2011, the District has awarded the construction contract, and issued a notice to proceed, to FNF Construction, Inc. The Contract calls for construction to be completed by June 24, 2012. Over the next 30 to 60 days, the contractor and engineers will be finalizing the construction schedule and coordinating the details that must occur before FNF can mobilize and start construction. The District looks forward to successfully completing the Dam Rehabilitation and ultimately being able to provide the level of flood protection desired by those living downstream of the Dam. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Districts General Manager.
