Volunteer Extraordinaire!
Ever wonder who prepares the salad, candy, soda, plates, napkins, utensils, popcorn and all of the yummy things that are included with the incredibly low price of $7.00 for Dinner and Movie nights? Well, it used to be one of your favorites, Suzannah, but since more and more residents are attending; it has become quite difficult and
time-consuming process. Charla and Roger Wake to the rescue! In the past three months, more than 260 residents have enjoyed the fruits of their labor. Every fourth Thursday of the month at 11:00am, Charla and Roger can be found in the kitchen working diligently to ensure an enjoyable evening for all.
But that’s not all folks! Remember how beautiful the Union Center looked during the "Holidays"? Guess who played a huge roll making sure every light, ornament and tinsel was placed just so? Remember January 2nd when all the beautiful décor was gone? Guess who (among many, many more) again? Charla and Roger!
Use of Neighbrhood Electric Vehicles
Use of Neighbrhood Electric Vehicles
At our town Hall Meeting in April, the issue of golf carts and “NEV”s was brought up. The issue being clarification needed on what the rules are for using these vehicles in our community.
Neighborhood Electric Vehicles are compact, low-speed vehicles powered by rechargeable batteries and electric motors, designed for drivers traveling short distances. Some NEVs are similar in size to golf carts, but often include additional features such as windshields, headlights and taillights, turn signals, rearview mirrors, and seatbelts. NEVs have maximum speeds of around 25 mph, and typically carry one to four passengers.
Neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) may not operate at a speed faster than 25 miles per hour (mph) and may only be used on roads that have a posted speed limit of less than 35 mph. NEVs must display a notice of the operational restrictions (either painted or otherwise permanently attached) on the vehicle in a location that is in clear view of the driver. (Reference Arizona Revised Statutes 28-966 and 28-2157)
Regarding the use of these vehicles in the Anthem at Merrill Ranch community; a golf cart or neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV) must be driven on the far right side of the street with posted speed limits not to exceed 35mph. The vehicle must be registered, drivers must have liability insurance and have a valid driver’s license. These vehicles are not to be driven on sidewalks.
Regarding maintenance vehicles; maintenance vehicles such as those used by HOA maintenance personnel and landscape workers are considered “farm equipment”. These vehicles do not fall under the same guidelines as the NEV’s or golf carts. These vehicles may be driven in areas in order to reach the area where work is needed, including sidewalks. Parking these maintenance vehicles in the street would require coning off the area, which would push golf carts and bicycles into the traffic lane, which is more of a hazard than a vehicle parked on the sidewalk. These maintenance workers can move their vehicle on the sidewalk when continuing work in the same area, however, when moving longer distances, i.e. from one neighborhood to the next, they should be commuting in the street on the far right side. Maintenance workers should be courteous to pedestrians and move out of the way to let them pass by. Please notify the HOA if a maintenance worker does not adhere to this rule.
